First Red Ribbon Week in Calexico, Ca - 1985

The Enrique "Kiki" Camarena Memorial Golf Tournament will be celebrating its 35th year in 2021! The "Kiki" as it has become known, is an annual charity golf tournament sponsored by the California Narcotic Officers Association - Region 7.  The tournament is named after Enrique "Kiki" Camarena who was a DEA agent assigned to the Fresno Office and was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico while working as a Drug Enforcement Agent. Kiki's death, although tragic, reminds us daily of the dangers law enforcement and their families face while protecting the citizens of our communities.

In 1985, and in honor of Camarena's memory, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin in his hometown of Calexico, Ca. Parents, sick of the destruction of alcohol and other drugs, had begun forming coalitions. Some of these new coalitions took Camarena as their model and embraced his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions also adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the red ribbon. As a result, “Red Ribbon Week” is celebrated nationally in October, to bring awareness regarding illegal drugs and the ongoing effort to prevent abuse by our country’s youth.

The California Narcotic Officer’s Association (CNOA) is dedicated to the eradication of illegal narcotic and works tirelessly to assist law enforcement and it’s association members in their pursuit of this goal.

Along with assisting the families of those who have fallen in the line of duty, funds raised from the Annual “Kiki” Golf Tournament go to support our law enforcement family by providing necessary training for those who fight narcotic crimes on a daily basis. Furthermore, CNOA is active in providing educational scholarships for young people working to better themselves through a college education.
